Downtown Winters

Day One

On your first day in Winters, it’s best to get yourself acquainted with the town. Downtown Winters is relatively compact, and most points of interest are located within walking distance from the intersection of Main Street and Railroad Ave. From here, you can check out the historic buildings or head to Winters Putah Creek Nature Park to check out the historic bridge that spans the creek.

 

If you’re here during the summer months, Friday night means Music on Main, when local musicians offer live performances from 7–9 p.m. On the fourth Friday of the month, the event expands to include street food, local wine, and other entertainment.

 

Before or after, you can take your pick from among several restaurants in Winters. Some to consider include Preserve, which focuses on elevated farm-to-table cuisine, Buckhorn Steakhouse, a renowned spot in a historic setting, or Carboni’s Ristorante, which serves authentic Italian fare.

Day Two

Your second day in Winters is a great day to explore the area’s wine, beer and spirits scene. But before you hit the tasting rooms, you should consider filling up with a hearty breakfast. One of the most popular spots in town is Putah Creek Café, which offers dishes such as eggs Benedict, chicken & waffles, and huevos rancheros.

 

Next, it’s time to explore what Winters is perhaps best known for: it’s world-class wine! The downtown area is home to two wine tasting rooms: Berryessa Gap Vineyards and Turkovich Family Wines. Both also have estate wineries just a short drive away, which offer tours and tastings among scenic views of the vineyards.

 

In addition to wine, Winters offers other unique tasting rooms as well. L’Apéro Les Trois produces French-style aperitifs in flavors such as apricot, green walnut and rosemary orange. You can also sample craft whiskey, gin and vodka produced by Patio 29 Spirits Co., which offers flights and cocktails. Prefer beer? There are also several breweries in Winters, including Hooby’s Brewing, a family-friendly spot with cornhole and a full kitchen, and Berryessa Brewing Company, which has live music and a relaxed vibe.

Day Three

A great way to start your Sunday morning in Winters is by fueling up with a coffee and a bite to eat from Steady Eddy’s. They roast their own coffee beans and serve up delicious breakfast panini, wraps, sandwiches, salads and more. Afterwards, check out the Sunday Farmers Market along Main Street (June – September), which features fresh fruit, veggies, flowers and food vendors. If you’d like to continue to do some shopping, you can browse the shops in downtown Winters, including Bella Boutique, featuring handmade jewelry and locally sourced gifts, and the Winters Collective, an artisan collaborative showcasing the work of area makers and designers.

After the farmers’ market, consider a visit to Park Winters Flower Farm. Here, you can pick your own flower bouquet, tour the farm or gardens, or participate in a hands-on workshop, which include topics such as making a dried floral arrangement or a holiday wreath. They also offer seasonal farm dinners.
