September is California Wine Month, meaning there’s no better time to sip and savor the world-class wines produced in Yolo County.
Coinciding with harvest season, California Wine Month is a time for local winemakers to show off the fruits of their labor. Wineries throughout the state will be celebrating with festivals, grape stomps, behind-the-scenes tours, culinary experiences and of course, plenty of wine tasting!
Yolo County is joining in the celebration with its own lineup of wine-centric activities. From festivals to live music, there are plenty of special events to take advantage of during California Wine Month.
Kicking off California Wine Month is Yolo Wine Night, which will be held Saturday, Sept. 6 at Heringer Estates in Clarksburg. The event is a great way to sample wines from multiple Yolo County wineries, all in one convenient (and beautiful!) location. The event features live music and food trucks, or you can bring your own picnic and sip under the stars. Tasting will be held from 6–7 p.m.; afterwards, wines will be sold by the glass. General admission tickets allow you to sample award-winning, estate-grown wines from the following Yolo County wineries:
- Berryessa Gap Vineyards, Winters
- Capay Valley Vineyards, Brooks
- Elevation Ten, Clarksburg
- Great Bear Vineyards, Davis
- Grindstone Wines, Esparto
- Heringer Estates, Clarksburg
- Julietta Vineyards, Clarksburg

Another event on Sept. 6 is the Rosé Harvest at Great Bear Vineyards in Davis. Held from 10 a.m.– 2 p.m., the event begins with a sparkling wine toast, followed by a vineyard walk to pick grapes. Afterwards, you can try your hand (actually, your feet!) at grape stomping. The event wraps up with a behind-the-scenes winery tour and exclusive barrel tasting. Can’t make it? Great Bear has live music and food trucks scheduled throughout the month of September.
Another way to enjoy Yolo County Wines during wine month is by heading to Winters for the second Saturday Art & Wine Stroll. Held Saturday, Sept. 13 from 2–6 p.m., you can meet local artists, view their work, and enjoy drink specials at participating businesses. In downtown Winters, you can sample wine at Berryessa Gap Vineyards or Turkovich Family Wines. In September, Turkovich is also hosting live music, dancing, food trucks, and a winemaker’s dinner at their estate winery down the road.
On Sept. 26, Grindstone Wines in Esparto is continuing its summer-long Music in the Park series. Held from 6–9 p.m., the family-friendly event will feature the band The VinylTones with food from the Buckhorn Food Truck. Guests are asked to bring their own lawn chairs or picnic blankets and enjoy an evening in the vines.
Another event scheduled during California Wine Month is the End of Summer Bash at Matchbook Wines in Zamora. To be held Sept. 27 from 12–7 p.m., the party will welcome Todd Morgan Band to their vineyard stage and Heavy D’s will be dishing out tacos and carnitas. Matchbook will also be hosting live music on Friday, Sept. 12 and Wednesday, Sept. 17.
