With a soft opening this month, the Hilton Garden Inn Davis Downtown made its debut at 110 F St., following a multi-million-dollar renovation of the former Hallmark Inn. Presidio Companies purchased the hotel in March 2018 and quickly began upgrades to the property and the adjoining independent restaurant, Seasons Kitchen & Bar.
Guneet Bajwa, a Davis resident and the managing principal for Presidio Companies, is excited for the public to see the renovation. He said the Hilton name is a big draw, along with its proximity to downtown and UC Davis.
Tajuana Slaybaugh, director of sales and marketing at the Davis hotel, said, “The Hilton brand has us filling fast, and the loyal Hilton Honors members are pouring in. It is all super exciting, along with the fact that Hilton just celebrated its 100 years in business” on May 31.
Hilton Garden Inn, part of Hilton’s global upscale brand, is known for its award-winning food and beverage offerings and exceptional team members. In February, Hilton was ranked first in Fortune’s 100 Best Companies to Work for in 2019. Though the Davis hotel is operated by Interstate Hotels and Resorts, the staff – many of them longtime employees – are proud to wear the Hilton name.
Longtime General Manager Marisa Schaffer trains team members to create “heartfelt and memorable experiences” for guests. She said the new light and airy design makes their stay – whether it’s for business or to explore the town or UC Davis – even more relaxing.
The transformation was not a minor update. For more than a year, crews have kept the hotel open while modernizing the rooms, lobby, common spaces, meeting areas, interiors and exteriors. The new green, brown and gray hues highlight Davis’ agricultural history while maintaining a clean, modern look.
A public grand opening event is slated for September, once construction wraps up.
As visitors enter the lobby from F Street, there’s a new beverage bar on the left, and a breakfast room at right that becomes bar seating – open to the public – at night. As guests continue to the reception, The Shop will be the place to purchase snacks and local offerings. A corridor leads from there to the patio. Outside, the courtyard provides a shaded event space, accommodating 100 seated or 250 standing guests. Visitors can relax by fire pits while enjoying a glass of locally made wine or craft beer.
For business conferences and other events, the hotel features a board room and open patio area. As before, there are complimentary bikes too. Besides the restaurant and hotel, the property includes the following ground-floor retail tenants: CREAM ice cream sandwiches, Massage Envy, T-Mobile, AT&T Store and the soon-to-open Teaspoon Café.
This winter, the adjoining independent restaurant was elevated to complement to the Hilton brand – a food and beverage leader in the upscale hotel category for more than a decade. Seasons Kitchen & Bar, 102 F St., serves as the caterer for hotel events, and offers a private room and patio for event rental. The improvements include a new interior and a lighter, fresher, understated look. A new executive chef and pastry chef showcase local, seasonal ingredients in the menu.
Companywide, Hilton Garden Inns have a whole new look, designed to anticipate and cater to today’s travelers. Guests can shop a 24-hour, grab-and-go retail space, offering healthy, indulgent and fresh foods, including salads, gourmet snacks and beverages, and a self-serve specialty coffee bar.
Guests enjoy complimentary Wi-Fi, 24-hour remote printing, and a state-of-the-art fitness center. Each room and suite feature white duvets and crisp linens; a spacious work desk with an ergonomic chair; a mini fridge, microwave and Keurig coffee maker.
