About Shawn Thwaites Rebel Quartet : Shawn Thwaites Rebel Quartet (STRQ) was born out of an exploratory effort to fuse intricate masterpieces of Caribbean, African, American, and European composers. With the steeldrum at the helm, STRQ is undoubtedly the world’s most eclectic ensemble. Bringing together elements of jazz, rhythm and blues, hip hop, afro-beat, and calypso, STRQ pushes the limits of innovation, while remaining loyal to authentic world sounds.
As a Trinidadian-American musician and educator, Shawn Thwaites authentically presents the steel drum and its deeply rooted history, while pushing the instrument and culture to uncharted territories. Thwaites has toured internationally, performed in some of the worlds most prestigious venues and recorded with notable artists, such as Lauryn Hill, Walter Beasley, and Greg Philliganes.
The Live at The HIVE concert series features an incredible lineup of local and touring bands from June thru October. . A sliding scale suggested cover charge helps to ensure all community members are welcome. For the full lineup visit thehivewoodland.com.
