As any dog owner can attest, our four-legged friends are as much a part of our families as anyone else. So, it only makes sense that when we spend a day exploring, we want to take our furry friends with us. Whether we’re hitting the trails, enjoy a meal, or even sipping wine, there’s no reason to leave your best friend behind. Yolo County has plenty of dog-friendly spots where they treat your doggo as their own.
Of course, dog parks are the Gold Standard when it comes to getting your pooch outdoors, and Yolo County has plenty to choose from. In West Sacramento, Sam Combs Park and Summerfield Park both have off-leash dog play areas. In Davis, your doggo can live his best life at Toad Hollow Dog Park or Grasslands Regional Park, which has a 10-acre fenced wild area where your pet can run free. In Winters, a good place to check out is Willow Canal Dog Park.
Spending time in the great outdoors is one of the highlights of pet ownership. Hitting the trail not only ensures your pooch gets some exercise, it also encourages you to get some exercise too! In Yolo County, there are several hiking and walking trails where you can take your dog. In West Sacramento, the Clarksburg Branch Line Trail is an easy, out-and-back trail atop a disused railway line. Dogs are allowed on leash. In Davis, leashed dogs are welcome on the Putah Creek Reserve Trail, a flat loop along the north side of the creek. In northern Yolo County, Cache Creek Regional Park has several dog-friendly hiking trails that range in difficulty. Some to consider are the moderate Frog Pond Trail or the Blue Ridge Trail, a challenging trek best reserved for experienced hikers.
After getting out and exploring the area, chances are, you and your dog have worked up a bit of an appetite. Luckily, there are plenty of dog-friendly restaurants in Yolo County. In Winters, your pooch can join you on the patio at Putah Creek Café or Steady Eddy’s coffee shop. In Davis, one of the most well-known dog-friendly spots is Burgers and Brews, which has a large outdoor patio. You can also dine with your pooch on the patio of Franquette in West Sacramento, a French-inspired wine bar and café.
Your pooch may not know the difference between a Pinot and a Primitivo, but that doesn’t mean he won’t enjoy an afternoon out wine tasting with his best human. Many wineries in Yolo County welcome your four-legged friends, including Turkovich in Winters, Miner’s Leap Winery in Clarksburg, and Matchbook Wine Company in Zamora.
Beer more your thing? A great dog-friendly brewery is Dunloe Brewing in Davis, which has an expansive outdoor patio. Another spot to sip is Patio 29 Spirits in Winters, a pup-friendly distillery that serves its house-produced whiskey, gin, and vodka.
