The Davis Farmers Market Cookbook celebrates America’s favorite farmers market’s 40th anniversary year. Author and market co-founder Ann M. Evans invites you to shop and cook through the seasons in vibrant Davis, California. The forward by restaurateur Alice Waters of Chez Panisse highlights the importance and fun of shopping at a farmers market and the model role of the Davis Farmers Market.
The cookbook features 75 recipes organized by season in the same manner as a meal is served, beginning with appetizers, salads and soups, followed by main courses and side dishes, and ending with desserts. There are also recipes to preserve each season for your pantry. Color photographs of the market, its farmers and vendors, and of the recipes by award-winning photographer Craig Lee illustrate the beauty of the market, the produce and the finished dishes that will grace your table.
Over thirty market farmers are introduced in these pages, giving readers the opportunity to get to know the people who produce and sell the foods they buy each week. This revised edition also includes twenty new recipes and a year of monthly menus for festive food-focused gatherings. The book also highlights the role of second-generation farmers at the market and programs that bring farm fresh food into the schools.
