So you’ve driven to the beautiful heart of Winters on a Friday evening to enjoy a stroll, some wine tasting, and a special dinner. Wouldn’t it be nice to enjoy the whole night? Perhaps take in some late night music or participate in karaoke, enjoy a second happy hour? This all becomes possible when it’s just a one block walk to your cozy suite at the Abbey House Inn.
The Inn has 5 uniquely appointed guest rooms, each with en-suite bathrooms. Some suites include jetted soaking tubs and fireplaces in the bedrooms. All rooms include high speed wireless internet, a wall mounted TV, seating, and radio. The lobby of the Inn is furnished to seat up to 18 people and has a classic fireplace plus a 55 inch TV. A traditional covered porch wraps the Inn with comfortable seating and ceiling mounted fans.
The grounds of the Inn are planted with citrus trees and has five patio areas with seating and tables for up to 20 people. Recent improvements are the addition of 5 off street parking spaces (one for each room) and soon, 2 electric car chargers for guest use. For bicycle oriented guests, there is a secure side yard storage behind lockable steel gates.
Abbey House Inn is a piece of Winters history. First constructed in 1905 to house the priests at the Catholic Church nearby, it was rescued from destruction for the price of one dollar and moved to its present location, and lovingly restored in 2002. Extensive renovation fully modernized the building with an all new concrete foundation, all new electrical and plumbing systems, and modern architecturally appropriate fixtures.
As of this writing Abbey House Inn is still the only hotel in the City of Winters although not for much longer. A new hotel is slowly rising across the street from the Inn and will join Abbey House Inn in serving the Winters bound traveler.
