Artists from the Sacramento region to the Bay Area have been drawn to the practice of creating assemblages since the 1950s. Assemblage refers to a sculpture fabricated by assembling discarded or recycled objects into a cohesive whole, often with an embedded social commentary. Contemporary artists Suzanne Adan, Randy Brennan, Julia Couzens, Stephen Giannetti, Nemo Gould, Ianna Frisby, Ron Peetz, Terry Peterson, Jill Allyn Stafford, Mike Stevens, and Carrie Ziser pay homage to the practice of assemblage.
